I used this drive for mirroring backup, after formatted which you get 3TB of space. I do not need speed but security to ensure my valuable date is fine. I thought this drive would be a good investment for my purpose.I am Mac user, first received this drive, connected to USB 3.0 hub(powered), it was working great at the beginning. I went to Lacie desktop manager and turn on Eco mode for saving power energy, then drive will fall into sleep mode after 30 minutes if inactive but here comes a problem, the drive is failed to stay connecting on desktop after waking up. I got a red warning window on my screen says my drive was ejected improperly, it may possible damage to the information on the disk. Soon after, I tried to connect USB 3.0 cable direct to my Macbook Pro, but still happen in the same way. The only way for this drive to stay connected is to connect by Firewire, and it was fine to stay connecting even drive is waking up from sleeping or turn off Eco mode, but what was the point by not using USB 3.0 high speed connection to take advantage of this drive?I soon contacted Lacie customer service. If you have any previous experience to deal with their warranty repair services, you will know what a nightmare to deal with them. My advise is to return your product as soon as you found out any issue without goes through Lacie warranty. You will first stay with customer services to go over all the possible steps to resolve your issues (which is OK if problem solved) before they will accept any warranty repairs but, this is not it, you will need to paid for shipping to send your item to them even it was covered by warranty. If you want to get exchange, they will need your credit card and charge you from $50-$150 depends how fast you want your drive back. Of course the data on drive will not be recovered, or you will need to pay for to recover your data. One thing they did try was send me a power adapter because they assumed my issue was caused by cables and power, but after I plugged the new power cable and used other USB cable, my problem stays.After all, Lacie determined the drive need to be repaired, but I refused to paid the shipping fee. I told them I just bought it in 2 weeks, and the drive was defected.I am returning this unit back to reseller. I could have it exchanged, but I truly lost confident for staying with Lacie products. Besides this drive, my most recent purchase of Lacie was back to 2012, the first drive I got was defected too, it was totally failed to mount, contacted customer service, the result was frustrating, so I got it exchanged from reseller, the second one has been functioning well until now. This time I get the same frustration by contacting Lacie for Big2 Quadra drive, and I think this is enough experience not to purchase Lacie drive in the future. I have been happy with Lacie product since 1998 or so, but the quality of drive has became so unreliable.I am sharing my personal story with you, before you decide to purchase their products you will need to prepare all the troubles if you ever need to repair your product since Lacie warranty policy is not so friendly to their customers.

This Hard Drive works great. I've only used the firewire 800 connection, but the advantages of this particular hard drive is that it allows you to choose from multiple connection options. Although a bit more expensive than other options LaCie makes great products that are dependable and long-lasting. I definitely recommend purchasing this product.
