Installation was easy, but when I first connected the enclosure to my computer, the drive was not recognized. Uh-oh...was there a problem with the enclosure? Had I damaged the drive during installation? Fortunately, no. I found that my drive (removed from an old computer running XP) was formatted as a "dynamic disk" and was thus not being recognized. The "why" behind that is for the techies to explain, but I discovered this by doing the following:Right-clicked on the "Computer" desktop icon; selected "Manage" from the list; double-clicked on "Storage"; double-clicked on "Disk Management"So the disk was listed but with 0 MB available. Then I noticed it was allocated as a "Dynamic Disk" while my computer's drive was a "Basic Disk." Windows will let you change a dynamic disk to basic, but it will reformat the drive in the process. So I googled my problem and discovered that my drive could be changed to a "Basic Disk" without reformatting it (or otherwise loosing data). I found simple instructions for making the change using a freeware hex editor called HxD. Though easy, it was a bit unnerving to commit to making the changes. Was I going to lose all my data? No, the instant I saved the changes in the hex editor, the drive blipped to life and all of my sweet files were there and ready to be accessed.Summary: the enclosure works well, and I am loving the USB 3.0 speed.

I received this HDD enclosure a few weeks ago. So far so good. This particular Sabrent is a bit smaller than the previous model EC-S35K which I also have (now it fits the HDD quite tightly). Besides that and being smaller, it is about the same as the previous model, aside from slight differences such as the switch being a different kind of on and off switch and the light, instead of being on the front and green / red, is on the back and is now blue. The power adaptor is a side type model, so it fits well on a traditional power strip or along side other plugs on a wall outlet. These HD enclosures only have USB out, they do not have eSata, so keep that in mind. However it is USB 3.0 and that is all I need. The downside of these enclosures is that they are expensive, so you are not saving any money with these compared to other HD enclosure models. These enclosures are made to be flat, they do not stand up. This newer EC-S35K has a little bit more ventilation than the previous one.Installation is plug and play, a screwdriver is included, and the four screws at the corner of the enclosure are opened by your fingers. If you don't mind the price I would say this is a good HD enclosure. One other thing I want to mention is that not all of the screws on the bottom fit into my HDD, however two of them did. This is not a significant issue.

Despite checking all the reviews here and all the specifications and descriptions I could not locate what the maximum supported drive size was. I went to Sabrent's website to look at the specifications which provided a little more info. It did state "Supports any drive capacity". I emailed their tech support asking if the enclosure would support a Western Digital 3TB SATA drive but they never responded. So with what I could determine from their website I ordered the enclosure to see if it would work. After installing the drive and hooking it up to my Win 8 64bit workstation, it reported that the drive is a 746GB disk not a 3TB disk. Went back to the company web site to see if they have any firmware updates to address the issue and there is nothing. Emailed support again but I doubt to hear anything back. Time to return and look at other options. If you are trying to use this with a drive larger than 2TB, save your time and look at some other product.Overall enclosure design is fine for what I wanted but without support for the drive it is worthless to me.UPDATE:I actually did get an email back from support. A couple of them actually. At first they told me to try another computer and to go to the Disk Management Microsoft Management Console. Ok, well that is where I determined it would only see 746GB but I didn't state that in my email so fair enough. I tried my laptop which is Win8 32bit. Same thing. He also asked that I try another drive but my other drives are 1.5TB disks and would be supported with an enclosure that supports up to 2TB so it wouldn't really prove anything. He then wrote back with the following."I just checked into the enclosure and is actually limited to 2TB and will have issues showing anything higher. That's probably the reason why you are seeing what you are seeing when you have it connected to your system."I wish this would have been listed in the specs of the device either on Amazon or their website. Better yet, if it was listed on both.Anyhow this may work fine for someone looking for a solution for a disk that is 2TB in size or less. If you are looking for one that supports a 3TB disk, try another option.
