So to start off I have to say I bought this at Fry's on their black friday sale. It was only $58 to me, so might be a bit more excited about it. So I've only used this a couple times so far, but I can say after formatting it a couple times(trying to find a good format for both mac/windows) going from ntfs-mac os x extended-fat-ntfs-exfat. It still runs very speedy, although much faster on my macbook air(2012 i7 model). On my sony laptop(F series) with a usb3.0 port it writes at around 50mbp/s not sure about the read but should be faster than that. And then on my macbook air from blackmagic disk speed tests, it writes at 175mbp/s and the same 175ish mbp/s for reads. Astonishing. Also after messing around with it for 3 hours, its still cool and very quiet just a whisper! I would highly recommend this to friends.

Well, for no frills storage I was quite happy with it. Until it died after 3 months. It just kept making the dreading 'clunk' noise that is the hard drive arm smacking against the edge of the unit, a common sign of a dead hard drive.. USB would not even pick up the device and my data is lost. I was using it as a backup device, so I while I did not really lose any data, if it had happened when my data needed to be restored I would have been in trouble. Things happen and everything can go bad, but I wouldn't use this to store important information. You get what you pay for.
