This is the best external hard drive, for DVR, I ever connected to Dishnetwork VIP222, and VIP722. A DVR is extremely demanding on the drives' throughput, and this one worked without ever showing any sign of distress unlike other ones. It comes with a USB3.0 cable which is backward compatible, and can be plugged into the DVR's USB2.0 socket.

This product looks great and is priced fair. I bought it when I lost my desktop hard drive. I bought this Hitachi external drive as well as a Western digital 1TB hard drive. The WD has been perfect and I just sent back (RMA) my SECOND Hitachi drive which went dead. Just wouldn't power up any more. I hope that 3rd times the charm. Good thing I had the WD or I'd have no backups of my data right now!

I'm using this as a client archive. Unit works great so far and no problems. I only wish it had an on, off switch on the unit itself.
