This is a good quality drive, there is one caveat... As I was trying to find a suitable enclosure for my HTPC, one of my main requirements is that the hard drive spins down when not in use. I did not want the drive running 24/7.This drive will NOT spin down in USB 3.0 mode. However, it will spin down in eSATA mode in the same manner described below.If this feature is important to you, I can confirm that a similar enclosure, the Vantec NST-330SU3-BK, will spin down (turn off) the hard drive in both USB 3.0 and eSATA modes. The drive will then start up again on a cold boot, or if the computer was asleep, it will start once the drive is accessed.I hope this helps someone interested in this feature... if you have any questions regarding a particular drive, I recommend contacting the manufacturer. In the case of Vantec, they were able to confirm the drive's behavior prior to purchase.

I was a little wary ordering this. No reviews, new item, etc. However, I could really use an external enclosure that supported both interfaces. Well, it works very well. I ran benchmarks using my Western Digital 1.0 TB disk, both directly, via e-sata and via USB 3.0. Virtually no difference in read speed (no write benchmarking done), and the only difference is that the average access time via USB 3.0 is 19.1 ms instead of 14.3 ms via sata/e-sata. FYI: Max read speed was 100.8 MB/s (direct), 101.4 (e-sata), 101.4 (USB 3.0).There's no fan, it comes with a stand so that you can stand it up vertically. It even comes with both e-sata and USB 3.0 cables.The *only* drawbacks, and the reason that I gave it 4 stars instead of 5: It's not screwless like the Silverstone TS07.I'm definitely happy with it, and will be ordering another one.

I got this unit more than a month ago for my Dell XPS 8300 i7 and it performs very well. I got around 100 MB/s transfer speed with both eSATA and USB 3.0. I tried to find this unit in local Fry's but Fry's carried this unit with only USB 3.0 but no eSATA so I had to buy it from amazon.com.
