The SAT3510U2F External Hard Drive Enclosure supports both USB 2.0 and FireWire 400 (IEEE1394a) host connections, providing the compatibility needed to create a convenient and versatile external SATA storage solution for desktop computers as well as MacBooks® and Windows® based laptops. Large capacity drives (tested with up to 4TB) can be used to greatly enhance your computer''s storage/backup capabilities. The USB/FireWire enclosure features a slim, lightweight aluminum design and includes a 6-pin FireWire cable simplifying the option to connect through IEEE 1394a, as well as a USB cable for USB 2.0 connections to the host.

Buyers should know that this not a no-name brand. This is a STARTECH product, model SAT3510U2F. It uses the Oxford chipset, which is a huge plus in my book. It's not that easy to find oxford chipsets among firewire/usb combo enclosures.The build quality is good, nice aluminum case with plastic caps. The vertical stand is just a piece of clip-on plastic but it does the job.I am using the unit with a Samsung 1 TB Spinpoint 7200 RPM SATA Hard Drive and have not had a single problem yet. I have yet to try the unit with 2TB drives but it should work.The unit comes with a small power adapter, a USB cable and a firewire cable. I was very happy that those thing were included in the box.

I had a good working 3.5" HD that I'd replaced with a bigger one, and rather than chuck it I wanted to use it for backup. I specifically wanted a FireWire connection for fast transfer, as a lot of external backup drives on the market only have a USB port. I'm pleased with my choice - the instructions were clear and it took only a few minutes to slip the drive into this case, the metal construction looks smart and probably dissipates heat better than plastic, and the price was good.

This case is super slick. A couple of screws remove one endcap, and the whole board slides out. Pop in your hard drive, realize there is a small plastic bag with screws to lock the drive down, close the case back up. Turn it on.Beautiful! Working fine on USB or FireWire.(but but but be sure the drive is really slid ALL the way onto the connector. I seated the drive 3 times before it actually spun up, because I didn't really have it pushed onto the connector enough. It LOOKED like it was connected, but actually wasn't).(but but but #2: cables are included-nice touch! However, they're short, maybe one meter on a good day.)
