This external hard drive dock adapter functions as a SATA HDD docking station - providing full, instant access to any 2.5in or 3.5in SATA (SATA, SATA II, SATA III) hard drive or solid state drive - without having to mount the hard drive in a computer or install it in an enclosure! Large capacity drives (tested with up to 4TB 3.5" and 1TB 2.5" drives) can be used to greatly enhance your computer''s storage/backup capabilities. I bought this product, because of its price. I used this to recover data off of a broken laptop. I also found this useful when cloning one drive onto another (using Clonezilla); all the drives I used were 2.5" and one was a SSD. The quality is good and the build is simple. It is not a complicated device, so it doesn't need a lot of bells and whistles.I believe this is a good deal if you are someone who only needs a dock infrequently. I believe this because it uses USB 2.0 to transfer data. If you often use a dock then faster forms of data transfer, i.e. USB 3.0 and eSATA, may be preferred. I think this product is fairly priced for its performance.

I repair computers inside this big, gated community in South Caroline and often need to recover files off SATA hard drives after a computer itself has gone bad. I just pull the HD out of the bad computer and place it into this mount and use the USB connection to retrieve the files. The mount is ultra easy to use and no installation was needed for XP or Win 7 or Win 8. The mount is handy for testing hard drives too.I also can do ultimate backups by cloning the hard drive. I liked this unit so much that I bought a second one.

Only complaint about this gadget is the short cord with it. Otherwise it worked great, although I have only used it once so far.
