The Seagate® Slim portable drive features Seagate Dashboard for consumers who want to back up their digital lives and take it on-the-go. Just slightly thicker than an iPhone®, the brushed metal design allows you to slide the drive into your pocket, purse or briefcase and carry it with you. Via the Seagate Dashboard, use the Protect function to set up your easy, automatic local backup with a one-click or scheduled plan. Keep multiple copies of your files in case disaster strikes. With the Save feature, user-generated content can be backed up from your favorite social networks. Many people now use their smartphones to capture priceless moments. While these devices are handy and readily available, storage is not their strong suit. Capture a memory, post it on a social networking site and let the Seagate Dashboard automatically back up any content posted. Even if the file gets accidentally deleted from the device, another copy can be waiting. The Share feature allows multiple files to be uploaded to social networks at once from your computer. The days of uploading individual files without creating a new album are gone! Simply select files to upload, choose where to post them and even add comments. Managing your social profile has never been easier. Install the pre-loaded NTFS driver for Mac, and use the drive interchangeably between Windows and Mac computers without reformatting the drive. Thoroughly impressed with how small and FAST this drive is. Getting write speeds of over 140mb/s on USB3.0, so it's quick. The drive is super small and looks very well built. Great looking drive.A first for me is the fact that I like the included software- a lot. The Seagate dashboard is worth installing and looking at even if you're predisposed to not like "included software" with most hardware items- like I am. I gave it a shot based on high praises from trusted tech friends and wow. Seagate got the included software right with this drive.Excellent overall package and highly recommended.(The backup and share features are a photographer's dream.)

I have owned a nearly identical WD (Western Digital) drive like this for about 5 years now. Works flawlessly except for one little problem. I seem to have lost/misplaced it! Being black in color it has somehow turned into a Chameleon that I have now spent 2+ months searching for without success....Which brings me to this little jewel. I thought my WD drive was tiny. This drive makes it look like a pig. This is only about 1/4" thin and about the size of a playing card. I was honestly stunned when I took it out of it's box. Installed the software on my Windows 7 machine and now my new Windows 8 machine in just a couple minutes. I ordinarily HATE included software with hard drives but wanted to try it before deleting it to honestly be able to review it. Turns out I LOVE this software and it will be kept. This software is called Dashboard. It even includes several built in videos that show you how to use every feature of this dive. It gives me all the assorted choices on doing backups, is clear & EASY to understand and use. FINALLY.... I have spent years being frustrated by overly complicated back up software that in the end, never much helped me when I got into trouble and needed bailing out. The portion of the software I found most unusual and enjoyable to use is for Saving items shared on Social Networking. It asked for my permission to access my Facebook, Twitter & YouTube accounts, I gave it and entered my passwords. I was actually shocked to see some of the pictures & videos I had placed on my Facebook page years ago & had forgotten about. I "adjusted" that to hopefully erase some of my "tantrums" I unleash when upset at things I encountered in the past like issues regarding Our War's etc. As a USMC combat Veteran I often take issue with some things and fly off the handle just a bit when faced with some opinions I disagree with (I am better now thank goodness). Anyway, it is a great tool for me anyway. Now the YouTube software I do NOT care for since while it does let me upload directly etc, it lacks all the options I choose when doing it directly. I want to pick & choose a title for my videos as well as set my preferences when I upload as to who can comment, vote etc. I also want to choose what category it plays in etc. So, while it offers this feature to at least upload, it is a bare bones tool that still forces me to go back into my account manually anyway so that I can set these items to MY preferences. As a result, I won't be using this feature but nice that it is there I suppose? I would give this 5 stars except for this. My past experience with Seagate drives I own for my Macs (the STCB3000900 and STCB2000100). I have their 2 TB AND 3TB drives. On both I have had endless crashes, freezes, unmounting, etc. I simply have them now sitting out in my garage until I find out how to take them apart and securely DESTROY any of my data that they may still contain. I have used more profanity against these drives than I ever did against the enemy when fighting in Wars......Now this drive is flawless so far. If it lives on and performs anything like my missing WD pocket drive, I will update as warranted. If this goes the way of my past Seagate drives? Well, then I will fully test the Amazon censors with my downgrade:-) So far, I simply love this beautiful little drive. I am even planning on painting it a bright pearl white or candy apple red to make it harder to misplace.

An excellent, lightning-fast, plug and play drive with lightning fast (USB 3.0, firewire)... even with USB 2.0 this drive seems much faster than any other external drive I've used. The drive is the smallest drive I've ever seen - much smaller than the Western Digital My Passport drive I bought a couple of months ago. No external power supply required - it gets is power from the USB port.I've bought and returned countless backup solutions, and am currently running a Western Digital My Book Live 2 with their hideously buggy "Smartware" solution. Most manufacturers can get the hardware right -- but the software is where they stumble. Not Seagate... Software makes the difference - it is extremely intuitive and easy to use. The drive comes preloaded with videos that give you brief walk-throughs of how to set up and configure the backup software. I watched for a few moments (the only negative part of this review is that the woman they use in the videos is just a tad too perky, grated at my ears) and decided just to install the software and see how far I could get without reading the instructions.Minutes later the software installed, walked me through registration, rebooted my computer, and literally 5 minutes later I had backed up all the photos and videos on my Facebook page and had moved on to a backup of my computer. The backup is still running, but I like the progress indicator ( would be great to also see a % of the drive still free). Two nice things about this software that are different than my other similar programs: #1, the data on your backup drive (the Seagate) is NOT encrypted... so you can easily browse using Windows Explorer to the folders on the backup drive and copy individual files if you want to. Same with all your Facebook photos and videos... no need to perform a restore to copy those pictures/videos to your my pictures folder or your desktop. The other nice thing is that it performs a continuous backup, copying files as you make changes, so you can set it and forget it. The software is smooth and fast, really clean interface...I have written some SCATHING reviews of similar products on Amazon... I like this enough that I am going to check out Seagate's larger drives as well.If I run into problems I'll update this review, but right now I'm really happy with both the hardware and the software and can't rave enough about this drive!
