If you want a fast hard drive for travel, transport between different computer or shipping this is it! I own 4 other USB 3.0 portable hard drives and this ADATA drive has the fastest transfer speeds. I'm thrilled.I needed a hard drive to ship back and forth with a business partner across the USA. I did my research and went with this ADATA drive. The feedback that I read was good, but not very in depth. I took a risk and am very happy that I did.To date I have been an avid user and supporter of Western Digital hard drives. I own 4 WD Passport drives (2.5" USB-powered @ USB 3.0): two at 1 TB and two at 2 TB. I love WD for their reliable performance and transfer speed. However this 500 GB ADATA DashDrive outshines the WD drives for it's performance. I also own or have owned a handful of Seagate external hard drives (both 2.5" and 3.5") but have been less happy with this brand. Now onto the ADATA DashDrive review.....FILE TRANSFER SPEEDS --> A +It took about 1/3 less time to load files onto this drive 500 GB than on the 2 TB WD drives. I was transferring 350 GB of the exact same files between my PC and both portable hard drives, so I could compare them side-by-side. Some important things to consider. A 500 GB drive will transfer files in less time than a larger hard drive. Typically the larger the hard drive, the slower the file transfer. This applies to SD cards and flash drives as well. So I expected faster performance on this smaller ADATA drive, but was surprised by how much faster it was.PROTECTION --> B+This ADATA drive looks hard core, like it could withstand an earthquake. But on closer inspection, there are a few minor flaws. Nothing major, but worth pointing out.A rubber jacket covers 3/4 of the drive. The rubber is wrapped around a sealed plastic case, in which the hard drive is contained. The rubber jacket is glued to the plastic in a few areas to keep it attached, however I can peal back the rubber at the center of the unit. This is not a bad thing, but dirt and grim can get under the rubber here. ADATA should have sealed the rubber to the unit to prevent this potential problem.The rubber jacket offers some additional protection, but I wouldn't drop this drive from a building and expect it to survive. After a fall from a table top, the drive should definitely function.The only opening to the internal hard drive is where the USB 3.0 cable attaches. To seal this opening, the rubber jacket plugs into it, protecting it from the elements. I haven't tested how waterproof this seal is, but the fit is tight and will definitely keep out light water, dust, sand or dirt.If ADATA was to redesign this drive in the future, I would recommend increasing the thickness of the rubber and creating a complete seal on the rubber.LOOK & STYLE --> A+In the middle of drive is a plastic panel that looks like carbon fiber, but it's just plastic. The panel is semi-translucent because the blue LED activity light shine through. Coupled with the rubber "armor", this is a very stylish hard drive.For transport, the USB cable attaches around the edge of the case. The cable is the perfect length to fit within the dimensions of the case. This is great! I wish all hard drives had this design. I have 4 portable drives in a stack and a pile of USB cable lying next to them. This ADATA is better engineered.The weight of the ADATA drive is not much more than my WD Passport drives. But after owning it I am thrilled by the transfer speeds and the cable attachment most. (I'm a very practical person.) The protection is still excellent and should not be a concern for anyone looking for a durable hard drive. After all, if it is total water submersion that you want, only an Otter Case or Pelican Case will give you that. For world travel, shipping or transport this ADATA hard drive excels.

I was blown away by how durable these hard drives were. Well worth the money. No more worries about hoping they work if they're accidentally dropped. I highly recommend these to anyone.

but when i got it first my computer didn't recognize it. second is that the hard drive wasn't 500GB it is 100GB and third the rubber pesce came off the first time i used it.
