This 1-foot USB-A to Mini-B Y-Cable provides two USB "A" Male connectors and a single USB "mini-B" Male connector - an ideal solution for providing the additional power required by some mini-USB External Hard Drives connected to the standard USB ports provided by most computers. Especially valuable in situations where a single USB 2.0 port may not offer sufficient power to external hard drives, the USB A/Mini-B Y-cable can be connected to two ports on one PC to increase the power output to power the external device. Bought this to provide extra power to a USB Hard Drive. I use this drive to connect to a car stereo that only provides 1 AMP of power through the USB. This was enough to get the drive to turn on, but whenever you changed songs, hit a bump, whatever it would skip or just start randomly when you were listening to another source. I installed this cable along with a secondary USB power source and it works like a charm. Only thing keeping this from a 5 star is that it is your typical, low budget, included with an electronic device quality of cable. It will work just fine, I have had no problems...but it's not overbuilt with extra shielding etc. that you might expect out of monster cable or dayton, etc...but it is cheap too, so whatcha want? It's great. If you need one, buy one.

I have bought two of these cables (one for micro and one for mini usb connections) and have been very pleased with the purchase. Great quality, short (I don't want to carry long cable with my laptop) so it fits my needs precisely.

Used this to connect a portable USB harddrive to my Dish TV receiver (so I could use as DVR). Dish receiver alone didn't provide enough juice for the harddrive (dumb), so patched this cable into both the Dish receiver and my audio receiver unit (for extra juice) and voila, I now can DVR on my Dish receiver!
