The Oyen Digital MiniProTM USB 3.0 + eSATA 6Gb/s external hard drive enclosure offers the latest eSATA / USB 3.0 solution while providing the fastest available data transfer rate with speeds over 250 MB/s.
The enclosure is compatible with all SATA 2.5" hard drives (up to 15mm) and is powered using bus power; eliminating the need for a power adapter. The solid black enclosure features a unique aluminum body engineered to effectively dissipate heat and allow for maximum protection of your installed hard drive.
This model is also capable of powering from an eSATAp port using a single cable connection (requires eSATA + DC power cable at Amazon item B00461595U).

I have been using this drive enclosure since early November with absolutely no problems. It is plugged into a Rosewill hub, and just sits in the background.This review was originally for the MiniPro 1TB External 2.5-in eSATA/USB Portable Hard Drive (ASIN: B003MRI398)I chose this drive over other 2.5" portable Hard Drives because it can be powered by an external 2.0A power supply. When reading all the negative reviews of other drives, most of the low ratings can be traced to insufficient power coming from the computer USB ports. I surmise that many of the reviewers do not recognize this, and blame the drive (with just cause). A typical 2.5" HD requires 850ma to start up, and USB ports are current limited to 500ma. Notice that the drives that have a Y cable (to provide 1.0A to the drive) have the fewest negative ratings and the ones that don't (like Seagate) have the most. The particular drive in this unit is a Toshiba MK1059GSM, which, according to Toshiba requires 900ma to start, and 440ma to run. (Higher than typical)I actually bought the separate external enclosure (Amazon ASIN: B003XEZ33Y) and a Western Digital Scorpio Blue WD10TPVT 1TB HD. (ASIN: B0034ZD5P0) ($108.75 from Oyen Digital directly)Most 2.5" HD enclosures will not accept a 12.5mm thick HD. Everything below 1TB is 9mm thick. 1TB or greater drives are 12.5mm thick to allow room for two platters. These drive enclosures have worked better than any of the other myriad enclosures that I have tried.

I have two other 2.5 inch external aluminum enclosures but this is the only model that supports my Samsung 1TB 12.5 mm drive. In addition, the build quality is excellent - solid aluminum casing, plenty of holes to screw drive into housing. All functions worked perfectly - eSATA and USB connectivity as well as USB cable powering. Great attention is paid to the little things such as an on/off switch and front facing venting holes. Comes with high quality eSATA cable and 2 other cable options for powering the unit - traditional power supply and double ended USB power cable. Bottom line is this is the best unit in its class by far and well worth the $10 extra cost. It is not even a fair cost comparison since there are currently no other eSATA enclosures in its class (i.e. that support the 12.5mm drives)

As an IT professional, this is THE best enclosure I've seen, ever! I am extremely impressed with the fit and finish, the solid yet small and light design, and configuration options. It comes with all necessary heavy duty cables; it even includes an AC power adapter for low power USB ports and conveniently a USB-to-power cable if you are using eSATA and don't want to carry around the AC adapter. The drive, an SSD in my case, securely screws onto the main board of the unit rather than relying on a friction fit, so the drive, whether it's an SSD or hard drive will NOT move or become disconnected. The main board also screws securely onto the enclosure, and it comes with rubber pads for feet to cover the recessed screw heads and provide a non-slip bottom surface.
