Product Description
The Oyen Digital MiniPro™ USB 3.0 + eSATA 6Gb/s external hard drive offers the latest eSATA / USB 3.0 solution while providing the fastest available data transfer rate with speeds over 200 MB/s. The solid black housing features a unique aluminum body engineered to effectively dissipate heat and allow for maximum protection.
The drive is compatible with all eSATA, USB 3.0 and USB 2.0 ports, and is powered by the computer's USB port. A power adapter is also included for those who prefer to power from an AC adapter. This model is also capable of powering from an eSATAp port using a single cable connection (requires eSATA + DC power cable at Amazon item B00461595U).

I have been using this drive enclosure since early November with absolutely no problems. It is plugged into a Rosewill hub, and just sits in the background.I chose this drive over other 2.5" portable Hard Drives because it can be powered by an external 2.0A power supply. When reading all the negative reviews of other drives, most of the low ratings can be traced to insufficient power coming from the computer USB ports. I surmise that many of the reviewers do not recognize this, and blame the drive (with just cause). A typical 2.5" HD requires 850ma to start up, and USB ports are current limited to 500ma. Notice that the drives that have a Y cable (to provide 1.0A to the drive) have the fewest negative ratings and the ones that don't (like Seagate) have the most. The particular drive in this unit is a Toshiba MK1059GSM, which, according to Toshiba requires 900ma to start, and 440ma to run. (Higher than typical)I actually bought the separate external enclosure (Amazon ASIN: B003XEZ33Y) and a Western Digital Scorpio Blue WD10TPVT 1TB HD. (ASIN: B0034ZD5P0) ($108.75 from Oyen Digital directly)Most 2.5" HD enclosures will not accept a 12.5mm thick HD. Everything below 1TB is 9mm thick. 1TB or greater drives are 12.5mm thick to allow room for two platters. These drive enclosures have worked better than any of the other myriad enclosures that I have tried.

I bought this to make use of my high-speed eSATA port, but it's painfully slow -- about 80 Mb/s.I read the others' reviews, and just assumed that they had older eSATA ports, or were using outdated cables, but I have a newer laptop with a powered SATA III (SATA 6Gb/s) port with newer cables, and I'm getting the same slowness. I've tried both the included eSATA cable and one I bought from Amazon (item B000ENYXZ6), but neither one gets anywhere close to the speed that was promised. I've also tried powering the device both off of my laptop and with the DC power adapter, but it doesn't make a difference.I'm glad to have it for the storage, but I could have spent less to get what I did. This is my first Oyen product, but because of this bad experience, I wouldn't buy another.

I actually thought I already reviewed this hard drive. Anyway, it is AWESOME! A 1TB hard drive that can run off of USB power (although it came with a power brick too). I use it to extend my netbook's disk space and it does wonderfully well. It is REALLY tiny. As a matter of fact, I think I might be able to remove it from its case and install it into my netbook as the primary drive (although I have not tried that yet.If you want a 1 TB drive that is unobtrusive or USB powered this one is for you!
