I purchased this drive to consolidate several 2TB drives I had collected over the years with tons of media (videos/photos) to connect to my new 2013 iMac.PROS:- Very fast. I'm able to edit in Adobe Premiere CS6 off of this drive. I believe the box said average speed 350 MBs or so. I used the Blackmagic speed test and mine topped out at 450 MBs. The only limitation is the drive speed themselves. They are only 7200 RPM drives, so you can only get so much speed.- Thunderbolt cable included. A $40 dollar value at writing this review- Pretty quiet. I have it sitting behind my iMac since I don't need to interact with it on a daily basis. Unless I am doing some truly large file moving, it stays pretty quiet.- Hot swapping is easy and simple.- Works with Mountain Lion.CONS:- Damn, that blue light is brighter than a second sun when you are editing in the darkness, but once again, it sits behind my iMac so it just looks like a blue halo surrounding it.- Heavy. I wouldn't want to drop this thing. Probably would take someone's foot out, if I did.- Because of the weight, this is not a great video/photo field production drive. I don't like carrying this thing around. It stays at home. Finally, I did a lot of research before landing on this drive. I read some reviews with horror stories of the drive making too much noise or of the actual hard drives needing firmware updates to perform well. In the first case, it sounded like LaCie replaced the drive with no arguments while the latter review had to perform the firmware updates themselves.I've owned several LaCie drives over the years and they always have inconsistant performance issues. Some work fine, some have trouble. This one, in my case, has worked like a charm, but I don't give it the full 5 stars because of S.A.L. 9000 blue eye lighting up my office like a beacon on a foggy night. I know it's part of the design of these drives, but let's drop the wattage LaCie. Sheesh.

This is an excellent drive for your new iMac. The easily removable drives are a plus, and the RAID 1 capability means I can sleep more comfortably (albeit at the price of half capacity). The included Thunderbolt cable is a plus. When considering drives, you must consider what you plan on using it for. I use this drive for my bulk storage of music and photos. For high-speed storage, I use a Pegasus R6 12Tb Raid Sys 6X2Tb Sata (PR602US) -. Not that this drive is slow... I'm sure it is fast enough to handle most people's needs, especially in RAID 0 mode. It's just that I wanted decent speed and large protected storage... and this drive fit's the bill nicely. For high speed 4K conform work, I have the Pegasus. That said, the drive has numerous complaints about vibration and fan noise, as well as a super-bright blue LED. I like to have the quietest system possible, so I keep the drive on the floor where the blue light doesn't bother me. The drive powers on and off with my iMac, so that makes this an easy proposition. Let's talk about noise:1) External drives are spinning objects (well, except for the SSDs, of course). They vibrate and the head arm moves. This is amplified by placing the drive on a desk as the desk surface acts as a sound board amplifier. You could suspend the drive in mid-air using heavy duty rubber bands (like a microphone spider mount) but this would look ridiculous. I choose to place the drive on the block of styrofoam that came in the packaging, and then place this on the floor. Be careful with carpeted floors as they will create static electricity.2) My drive had a vibration noise issue that was particularly annoying. Every now and then the drive would begin to emit a vibration/grinding sound. If I gently bump the drive with my foot it would go away. Bumping a spinning drive is a sure fire way to destroy them as the heads are floating microns above the surface of the platters... so this wasn't really a long term solution to my problem. I contacted LaCie support and they responded with the typical corporate form letter response. Eventually they offered to accept my drive, look at it and return it unaltered if they found nothing wrong. I knew that this would be the same as taking the car to the mechanic, only to have the car behave completely normally, and the mechanic to look at me like I'm some kind of nut job. Seeing that the drives were mounted on rails that were not particularly snug, I decided to add some weatherstrip foam to the outer sides of the drives to prevent any internal chassis vibration. This worked perfectly and I have never heard the vibration noise since. You can watch my You Tube video that shows how I fixed this vibration issue here...http://youtu.be/DuMbSka2C64I also mention how to reduce the super-bright LED using a cotton ball.3) Others have reported fan noise issues. I have not experienced this issue, but then I haven't pushed the drive hard enough for the fan to even come on to any decent speed. The fan's speed is thermal related, so the drive needs to get hot for the fan to speed up.

This is clocks at lighting speed and the easy up was very easy. I even got great customer service when I called to ask about the difference with Raid 0 and Raid 1.
